All,
I'm installing the RH7 on a 9.875GB partition (w/ 125GB swap) on a 20GB maxtor ATA-100 HD. The first 10GB are taken up by Win98 (OS 3GB/Data 7GB). Before the install the I set up my linux partitions from Win98 with PartitionMagic. Subsequently, I booted from the boot.img disk and began my installation... it is incredibly slow. I started last night at around 10 o'clock and 12 hours later I have 623pkgs/844pkgs installed (I did a custom install with everything selected). An alarm bell rang (in my head!) when during installation a dialog popped up saying that my machine didn't have much memory and partition data would have to be written to the HD immediately (see machine sig below). After this everything just slowed up. I did the exact same installation on Celeron 300A (@450) system w/128MB ram, 9GB IBM scsi drive and everything was done within one sitting. Any ideas?
