Ok, bear with me here please as im very new to networking and especially when it comes to the linux world. im in the process of setting up an old pentium 1 as a firewall to my main computer at home. im using an adsl line and ethernet cards. basically, im wondering if i can just put two ethernet cards in the firewall box and run networking cables basically in series or if im going to have to get a router. also, can anyone suggest some reading material so i can learn how to set up the ip addresses properly? and the last question is after i set up the two computers to work together can i share the home directories between the two boxes so i have the same settings in both computers? (they are both running libranet which is based off of debian woody.) thanks

You can setup the pentium PC as a router and a firewall. All you need besides the NICs is a crossover ethernet cable between the pentium and your main computer. Read the networking Howtos and read up on iptables, routing and ipforwarding etc.

to add to that.

if you bought a router you wouldn't need a firewall pc.
