Hello, i am a newbie to linux and i have some problems, i will list them,
#1 There is crippleing video problems with the XWindows KDE GUI, the lack of support for my video card might be the problem, I can only see the whole screen when i use the 16 color server, when i try useing the 256 color or higher servers most of the screen is cut off and i cannot see over 75% of the screen, my video card appears to be a Intel 810 Chipset, however the closest thing i could find is the Intel 740 generic graphics card listed, which is incompatible with most of the decent color settings and resolutions, i need a place where i can get the proper drivers for my video card and add them to the video card list or something to make it display properly.

#2 It will not work with any of my modems, i have it set for the right port it is on Com2, but yet for some reason Kppp says "sorry the modem is busy" i probably need drivers for a conexant HCF V90 56k data fax PCI modem, i need to somehow get the right drivers and install them into linux, any help would be appreciated.

The reason you have not received any replies yet is you need to tell us what distro and what version of X you are running.

Have you verified your modem is not a WINMODEM? If you had read any of the hundreds of posts on modems, you would have known this.

Also not using other threads to complain that nobody has bothered to answer your questions is not going to help your cause.

I think he means don't use another thread to complain that your question hasn't been answered :)

I have gotten X working properly in 24bpp on an Intel i810 in Redhat 7 so it is possible, more info on your distro and version would help to work out whether or not it is supported with the version of XFree86 that you have.

You say that 75% of the screen is cut off when you use 256 colours or higher, have you tried moving the mouse to the edge of the screen to see if you can scroll around? If you can, then pressing [ctrl]-[alt]-[numpad +] will cycle through the resolutions you defined when you set up X. You probably have multiple resolutions set up for 256 colours or greater, in my experience X always starts in the lowest resolution.

i wish i could help, but i will say about your video card that in Linux the drivers are based more on the manufacturer of the chips than the brand name of the card, like i have a 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 and it is listed as a AOpen card...

as as far as resolution i do have a peeve, it seems like the GUI is designed for bigger resolutions like 1024X768 while most of the internet is designed for viewing in 600X800, and every Linux distro seems to omit the option of using 960X720 which would be perfict for both the GUI and viewing the big WWW...
