i've got 2 different usb modems. one d-link dsl-200, one alcatel speedtouch (green frog one).
new to linux, but got a hold on the essentials and what goes where...but this is ****ing ridiculous. perhaps its the nature of adsl in australia but it requires a phone number to be dialled, just like a dial-up connection. all the docs i've read and details about adsl for linux (pppoe) make no reference to phone numbers and hence, i can get linux to see the modem, just not dial a connection.
so either i've gotta upgrade to an ethernet modem (coz my knowledge ain't so good as to compile kernels) or network my winxp box to the linux one.
i love linux and would love to share it with those around me, but ****...they sure don't make it easy.
just a story.
peace be with you my open source friends:)
