Hi
Can anybody help me understand how fonts work under X?
For starters, which program is responsible for them? I run KDE 2 under SuSE - does KDE install some kind of server program which makes fonts available to the programs? I installed some ttf fonts using instructions from one of Linux Newbie's FAQs but they're not available under Star Office.
The same applies to printing - who is responsible for it? If I want to output a graphical document from, say, Star Office (ie text + pictures), is there a 'printer server' that handles the request? Is this started by default and running as a service or do i have to start it?
Finally, does anybody know how to stop KDE 2 spawning each fresh window at the very top left (ie 0,0) of the screen?
