I'm trying to update KDE base packages from:
http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/linuks/i386/update_for_8_0/base.html.
It concerns especially kdebase
The following dependencies makes it impossible:
qt3=3.0.3 is needed by qt3-non-mt-3.0.3.14
qt3>=3.05 is needed by kdelibs3-3-0.3-70
kdelibs3>=3.03 is needed by kdebase3-3.0.3-44
qt3-non-mt-3.0.3.14 is also the bottleneck.
How is it possible for this "newbie" to solve this? Or is the update not very relevant to keep my system up to date?

Before updating your kde base, you should get these packages. Try to find them at : http://www.rpmfind.net

I updated last night using the YOU (Yast online updater). [Hey - I'm a newbie! Gimme a break] I have SuSe 8.0 with KDE 3.0. Everything seemed to go smoothly. I think it checks dependencies for you...

Type: yast2 & [PRESS ENTER]
Select Online Update, wait if you are on dial up.......
... still waiting ....
.... still waiting ....
While you are waiting I bet you wish you were on cable modem! Anyhow after it finishes the patch / update upload select KDE3 and all the goodies that go with it and press NEXT.... if you are on dial up.... well go watch a couple of movies!
The yast2 will download, dependency check and install KDE3 for you... I did it and I am on a cable modem and it took 17 minutes total.
Have fun!

Is that all? In thougt I could only upload patches and bugsfixes with yast 2. I don't have the choice like in Mandrake to specify system updates or software updates. However I shall try if your way is possible.

I tried it, and it is possible. It's a pitty that, unless the suse site say KDE 3.03 is available I can not update to 3.03 but to 3.02.x. Perhaps when Suse 8.1 is officially launched (7 okt) a 3.03 update will be available.
