Hello all,
As I sit here compiling on my machine I was thinking "Hmmm... I wonder what the fine folks at LinuxNewbie prefer for installing packages?"

Source, I don't have a choice.
LFS doesn't install a package manager. Of course, if absolutely necessary, you could always compile dpkg and apt, or even rpm, from their sources, but why? I moved to LFS to get RID of these things -- and yes, I know, that's a circular argument. ;)
Actually, I should back up on that one, I do have some sort of package management, but I do everything manually. I install .tar.gz's as different users (one per package). That way, every file on the system has an owner that corresponds to which package installed it. A couple of simple find / -xdev -user <packagename> -exec rm -f {} \; commands, and any package is gotten rid of. And when people ask "what package installs /usr/lib/libGL.so.1?", it's simple to find out -- in my case, it's the nVidia drivers.
Of course, suid root programs cause issues, but I can change to root to change their owner and u+s bits.

I had to stop useing tar balls cause one day my brother smoked um he thought they where hashish balls, then my dad stole all my rpm's and put them into his camaro and today I am begining to think when it says "make" I need to get a bigger hammer....
