I have looked at some DVD players and how do they expect me to install it as it errors every time (xine) Isnt there an easier way to install it like just an exe file? e.g Star Office. Do any distros like 'SuSE' come with DVD players already installed? Help! I want to watch DVDS
Thanks,
Karl.

I've installed the latest from Xine.
xine-lib-0.5.1.tar.gz
then run ldconfig
xine-ui-0.5.1.tar.gz
again run ldconfig
Then downloaded and installed the css plugin from http://www.geocities.com/captain_css and again ran ldconfig.
I then start Xine using
xine DVD://VTS_01_0.VOB
Select d4d instead of dvd and all works fine.
Hope it helps.
SuSE comes with nearly every piece of software you need. Check your cds for the xine package. It's also got a lot of other viewers in the 'gra' (graphics) series

When I use Xine I have to use the -s option for it to work correctly.
xine -s
Type xine --help for all available options.

there's also OMS at linuxvideo.org. it works, but the audio doesn't sync up with the video, at least not for me (8x Hitachi DVD on Mandrake 8)

I use vlc (http://videolan.org). Works 100% (or damn near) for me. at least close enough so I wouldn't bother to reboot into another OS to watch dvd's.
The INSTALL/README gives you a list of things to enable you can copy to the console. To get it to compile I had to try what was there, take out what stopped the compile process, try again, repeat a few times, but it works great now.
