I just installed redhat7.1.When I clicked on kernel in the control panel, I got this error:

"couldn't execute /usr/bin/kdesu "/usr/bin/kernelcfg". Please install the kernelcfg pacgkage"

Since I installed everything, I am not sure why it still asked for that package?

Also I did not find the file conf.modules as in version 6.1?

try doing an 'rpm -q kernelcfg' . It should tell you whether the package is installed or not. conf.modules has been changed to modules.conf. It's probably best to delete conf.modules, or at least symlink it to the other file.

I used "rpm -q kernelcfg" and got " package kernelcfg not installed. I also tried "find / -name kernelcfg*.rpm -print" and it came back empty.

hello,
I don't think that kernelcfg comes with redhat 7.1 it is not on any of the disks.

yea, it looked that way. But there is an icon "kernel" when you click on the kontrol panel( on the desktop ). If you click on that icon, you will get an error.

According to the Red Hat 7.1 package list here (http://www.redhat.com/products/software/linux/pl_rhl.html), there is no kernelcfg.

Kernelcfg (for some weird reason) isn't icluded in RH7.1 anymore. You can get it from redhat site from here (http://www.redhat.com/swr/i386/kernelcfg-0.6-9.i386.html).
