Hi,
Has anybody tried the new smoothwall version?
How does it perform and what are the new features. Is it any good?
Thanks for any input. :p

Yup, and it looks really great! :D
Totally revamped web interface; looks really good.
Added support for USB modems/ethernet (ADSL included).
Added 'Intrusion Detection System' based on 'snort'.
Added IPSEC VPN capabilities.
Added Virtual DNS setup (get your 5 free hostnames at www.dyndns.org (http://www.dyndns.org) )
Added 'IP pinhole' setup from DMZ (Orange) to your local net (Green).
All logs have improved with additional explanations.
All in all a worthwile upgrade :)
Cheers :)

All in all, the 0.9.9 is much better than 0.9.8 (ref my above post).
I haven't any figures to back up things like performance, but it feels a lot smoother ;)
No reason to keep 0.9.8 and wait for 1.0, since the 0.9.9 seems pretty much to be where 1.0 would end up.
Cheers :)

Thanks for the quick reply I'm downloading it right now and try it out.
BTW, do you know if it supports multi PPP?
Thanks. :D

If you refer to multiple dialup accounts, yes it does.
You should download all the documentation also (pdf format), but the web interface of SmoothWall should be pretty intuitive anyways.
Cheers :)

Thanks a lot choozo, youve been a big help.
The reason for my asking is that we have two dedicated dial up internet accounts and we currently share them among a hundred users using smoothwall. We want to connect it to one smoothwall machine to increase our bandwidth and as a load balance of traffic.
If this is now possible with 0.9.9 then my thanks to you.
:D

Hmmm ... when you put it that way, I'm not sure anymore.
I thought you referred to several accounts, and using them one at a time - by selecting which one to use prior to connecting.
I believe the 'smoothwall users' mailing list would be the perfect forum for this kind of queries, as the developers of SmoothWall keep a keen eye on that list. You will find instructions on how to join that list on the smoothwall site.
Cheers :)
