Redhat 7.1, with KDE 2.1 & Zoom 56K external modem:

My phone line isn't the cleanest, so I often lose the connection. When that happens, kppp crashes, leaving the kppp window grayed out. The kppp window won't close, and it can't be restarted. All attempts to kill the kppp process from a terminal window fail, too.

I have to reboot the computer each time to start the kppp connection again. Sounds like some kind of Windows bug from hell, doesn't it?

Thanks in advance for any ideas. :)

Sorry no idea why that could be happening.

The 'kill' manual page (man kill) has a few options you can try to kill the kppp process.

kill -9 pid

should work.

MD, thanks for the reply - I've tried that in the past, but no luck with it, either.

Well, one thing for sure - you "know" you have a serious problem when not a single one of the 20,761 members here know the answer... ;) ;)
