Also, my modem is on COM3, bu tit says that it is busy, when it's not! Can you guys help me with any of this stuff? Thanx!

First, I am not sure what compukeserve is but if it is a windows .exe file it will not work in linux. Not without an emulator anyway. Win .exe files are of no use to you in linux.

Second, what kind of modem do you have. Is it a winmodem or hardware, ISA or PCI jumpered or PnP.

This is information that will be needed.

Is your ActionTec a winmodem? That could be the problem.

The Modems NHF's (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/modems/index.html) have suggestions and links to sites where you can verify your particular modem.

Isn't this the same question you asked in hardware? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=006322

Now we're posting duplicate answers to both your questions.

Please just post once in the appropriate.

I could have been using the time I spent posting the suggestion for you (since it was already posted in your other thread) on someone else that's needs assistance.

Make that 3 crossposts so far.

It's really not necessary to crosspost and we can see ALL the forums and topics.
