dual boot system--WinME and RedHat7.1

I ran scandisk under windows and got a message saying something about the boot sector being corrupted, and asked me if I wanted windows to correct it (letting windows correct it is the only way I'll be able to defragment my windows harddrive).

I was kinda afraid to let windows do that...not sure if it would overwrite something, and not allow me to boot linux.

thanks for any input!

If LILO is installed to the MBR then if you fix the problem, it will re-write the MBR and your LILO will be gone. Now if you have a working boot disk that you have tested, you can go ahead and fix it then use the disk to boot and then re-run LILO.

Not familiar with WinME so I am not sure if this is typical if you install LILO to MBR.

If LILO is not in MBR then there SHOULD be no problem fixing. Either way make sure you have a boot disk.

I'm dual booting ME and Suse, and several times in ME I got a similar message after a freeze-up and hard reboot. I always opted to repair, and it didn't overwrite the MBR. I had no problems. It just wants to fix errors. :)
