Hello There. Im a 14 year old student at my local highschool and also invloved in our community service club. We decided to purchase a computer with some of the money we have raised and run a website and server. To help with the budget and stabilty,I and a few others sudgested Linux.Unfortuantley, I cant get our sound to work wich might seem like a big deal, but it is because we have several students who are visual impared. I am running Mandrake 8.0 and I have a Aureal Vortex 1 soundcard, Mandrake however dosent support it. Does anyone know a driver or somthing that could fix it? Thank you soo much, because by helping me we can now help others,especially thoes in need in the NY,DC,PA areas. Thanks so much!

P.S. Please E-Mail me at gregpfeff@home.com if you have an answer! :cool:

For *.bz2:

tar xjvf filename.here.bz2

For *.gz

tar xzvf filename.here.gz

In the directory, there should be an INSTALL file with installation instructions. If that's not there, then try looking for a README file. If anything, you can probably just try the following (I'm assuming you're in the directory with the drivers):

./configure && make && make install

Doesn't Mandrake have a software updater thing for X? Try looking in there for drivers before doing this. That can often make installation a little easier.
