using slackware 8.1.
first of all install the sblive driver/support in the kernel (in the sound menu of course), i had to set it up as a module (didn't work else).
next... the drivers for sblive is included in slackware 8.1 (and most others by now). so print "modprobe emu10k1" (btw emu10k1 is the chipset used by sblive, therefor this cryptic name). if there's nothing appearing on the screen, its a okey! if you get an error... search elsewere.
now print "chmod 666 /dev/dsp". this will give you sound! didn't work if you didn't wrote the last thing, even as root!
as a last thing to do: edit "/etc/rc.d/rc.modules" and uncomment "/sbin/modprobe emu10k1" and you got sound EVEN after a reboot!
wrote this because it seems that a lot of people have problem with this!
