Well, I'm down to my last piece of hardware. A free scanner I got free with a harddrive about 3 years ago. Priliminary internet searches made me believe that this scanner was not supported, but I found a few "suggestions" and was hopeful. No dice. Xsane does not see my scanner. If anyone has this particular scanner and has been able to get it to work in Linux, please post a brief explanation of how you did it. Otherwise, thanks for reading this far.

Parallel port. There are canon drivers, but not specifically for the 320P. I think it will be much too frustrating to try to figure this out unless someone has actually done it with this particular scanner. Thanks, though.

The 320P is now supported by the canon_pp backend for sane 1.0.9, but I still can't get mine to work. The printer starts spitting out pages and the scanner generates random errors.
Once again, this post is for other CanoScan users only. I wouldn't want to burdon anyone else with this headache, as the setup is very specific: ie, parallel port with printer chained to the scanner.
I'm going to keep hackin at this thing and will post a solution if I find one.

Well, I got it working with some help from one of the developers of the driver. After installing sane-1.0.9 backends and frontends, then uncomment the canon_pp line in ddl.conf, then fire up xsane, calibrate and scan. Unfortunately, there are alot of little tweaks that may or may not be necessary during all of this. If you need help, IM me.

I'm so proud of myself, I'm posting my first scan. Why you would want to look is beyond me. But I'm posting it anyway.

Very nice scan. I have a similar setup with the FB320P (also donated!) daisy chained to the printer. I can print, and scan with the Scan standalone program, but SANE continues to elude me. I've compiled and installed the new version (sane-backends 1.0.9), but have yet to get the program to recognize that the canon_pp driver is in fact there. Oh well, if I solved everything I would have nothing left to do...probably have to start breaking things to keep myself occupied. :)

I had to uncomment the canon_pp line in dll.conf, then sit through quite a few sessions of paper spitting out of my printer while calibrating. Also, make sure /dev/parport0 is linked to 99,0 and has at least rw permissions for you.

Thanks for the info....I'll give it a shot. I can scan with the standalone, so I don't have to *gasp* boot back into windows, it just means that I can't directly scan from any progams which is not the end of the world. :)
