I've been trying to run Half-Life in WINE, and it installed properly and everything. When I run it, though, it tells me:

Half-Life requires 16 bit color, sometimes called HiColor, and also known as blah blah blah. Please go change this.

What the heck?

I know this has been posted before, but whether it was here or one of the other boards I check, I'm not sure... did you try searching through everything on LNO?

I know it's a bug with the version of something... have you upgraded HL to the newest version yet? Maybe try that. Or which version of Wine are you using?

What is really silly and usually fixes it...add --console in the execution of it.

$ wine hl.exe --console

I'll have to reload it and try that....

Did the HL upgrade get it working Dun'kalis? Also has anyone managed to get the Day of Defeat mod working under Linux?

Depending if you paid for winex or got the cvs, your command will be either 'wine' or 'winex'. Adjust accordingly.

wine --winver win98 blah blah blah blah, etc., etc.
