To change the resolutions you set in XF86Config run as ROOT xf86config . Some question might seem odd like v and h sync for your monitor. I hope you either: 1) have a good guess or 2) have your manual for your monitor. You might also want to try Xconfigurator For xf86config and Xconfigurator, restart your X server after making the changes.
