I was previously running Mandrake 7.1 but decided to try the debian platform over the Christmas break. This is my system as it stands right now:

- 300mhz pentium II
- 256mb ram
- 3com 3905 NIC
- ATI Rage 128 video card
- 17gb ATA66 Hard drive(empty, formatted: fat32) on a SIIG ATA66 PCI Controller card

I downloaded the iso's for debian and put cd 1 in and rebooted my machine. It seemed to begin all right but complained that it couldn't find any hard disks? Then it said that it could not find a NIC. I'm hoping that someone out there has had a similar problem? I've searched the forums here and really haven't found any answers...

Just as some added info, Mandrake did infact pick up my SIIG PCI controller when I installed a while ago, so at some point some derivation of linux has worked in conjunction with the card.

Thanks in advance...

For your debian boot disks, did you try to use the ATA-66 disks? These have ATA-66 drivers for a number of ATA controller cards.

Thanks

Check out this thread:

You will have to add kernel arguments at the lilo prompt to get Linux to see your drive connected to the ata66 controller.

...or try clisham advice and get the boot disk that supports ata66.

If you still have problems you may want to research that SIIG card to find out what chipset it has and if it is supported in Linux. I know Promise and Highpoint are.
