ok, if looked in google....no luck. All of the references point to "http://glide.xxedgexx.com/3DfxRPMS_vb_glibc.html3dfx/linux/glide", that doesn't exist anymore. All of the other references point to issues about gaming problems.
The latest problem I've noticed is that my GNOME display is HUGE! I have to scroll my mouse pointer around the monitor just to view all the display. However I'm still getting the same problem (no display with some pop up boxes, no text display with menu bar extension icons). Bringing up the terminal screen ( i think that is what X11 is?) doesn't even show the portion where text is displayed. The outline of the box is there but the portion where the text would be is transparent. It does work. After blindly typing "reboot" it did reboot the system. Please help me!!!!!!

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, you need to edit your xf86config file and tell it you do not want a (virtual screen?). i think that's what it is. what it does is it makes the display larger than your monitor so you have to move your mouse to get to the end of the display. i'm not sure it you can do it directly from X. try xf86setup at the xterm or eterm (or whatever you use). see if there's an option in that.

hope this helps,

also, check the xfree86 (http://www.xfree86.org) website and see if your soundcard is support, or whether you have to upgrade. i have xf86 3.whatever, but i just got a new video card and i need to get 4.whatever. not on a 56k line with 2 roommates!

command line for me.

oh yeah

 Slackware

Thanks for the insight....That seems to be the fix for the huge screen size but will that clear up the problem of missing portions of text that go along with certain menu items or console displays (X11 transparent background/no text).
