Not sure if this is software or hardware!

I have a 20Gb drive with three partitions: /, swap and /var
using ext2 on hda1, and an 80Gb drive with two partitions, /home and /home/user, using reiserfs on hdd1.

I recently tried to add a parallel port webcam, and since then I have been getting a "device not ready" message from hdd1

I have removed the webcam and am still getting problems. I can see the files eventually on the 80Gb drive, but they all say "permission denied" against them, even if I am root.

I haven't tried running reiserfsck yet, as my reiserfs utilities are in my home directory - guess where!

I wonder if the web cam has screwed the PSU in my computer?

Jon

I've had problems where permisions get fscked up out of the blue, and there is a command that fixes that.

Have you tried ext3? It's really nice and transparent. No problems yet.
