Basically that. I can login then as root run gdm to login again. I have a lot of themes for gdm that look cool. I would like to make GDM start when linux boots so that I only log in once. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks. mdwatts 09-22-2002, 05:33 PM You need to change the runlevel. http://linuxnewbie.org/nhf/X_Window/Booting_Into_GUI.html trilarian 09-22-2002, 07:58 PM I already have my run level set to boot into graphical. That NHF just says you can use gdm but does not say how. Spoticus 09-22-2002, 08:34 PM Not sure which distro you're running, but edit the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop (hopefully that exists for you) so that it reads: DESKTOP=gdm pbharris 09-22-2002, 08:41 PM hello, if all that fails edit you /etc/inittab fail and have it look something like this: x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/gdm -nodaemon This of course assumes that the runlevel 5 is used and is intended to used for graphical loggin. trilarian 09-23-2002, 01:00 AM Thanks both of you. The latter did it for me. Now I don't have to see that boring blue screen. FYI I'm using Mandrake 9.0. justlinux.com
