Hello,

I have a few questions.

1> I installed version 7.0 some time ago, and it didn't like my Ricoh 7040A burner.
The hardware compatability page says it supports a couple of ealier ones. Red Hat works well with my burner.
Will Mandrake?

2> Would it be bogged down if it runs on a MMX 166 with 64 MB ram?

3> Does this distro make a good server? How secure is it? If running PMFirewall, will it be very secure?

3> Is it worth using it instead of Red Hat 6.2?

4> Does it support SBLive!?

5> Thanks for any help :-))

1.Ans.: MDK 7.2 will support your Ricoh burner.

2.Ans.: I would recommend making an image on your drive first, then, burn it.

3.Ans: Yes it does make a good server I heard. Haven't tried it myself. PMFirewall will help make it secure. Make sure to take out unneeded packages that might present security holes though. You might want to sign up for security alert with Mandrake. They send out these alerts and the versions that are affected along with the fix; good stuff. Perform a Forum Search for securing your box or just plain security, there you would find lots of suggestions as to what you might want to disable.

3a.Ans: If you have the time, patience, and space on your pc, try them both and see which one you like best. I am somewhat partial to MDK. no special reason and am inclined to say go with MDK 7.2

4.Ans: YES. No problem dectecting SBLive. Sounds great with decent speakers.

I hope this helps you with what you are searching for.

I think he misread that

It should run fine though be selective if you are going to run X. Choose a lightweight Window Manager like IceWM, Sawfish, or BlackBox. You will be disappointed by KDE or Gnome.

Shad is right. I thought you meant copying cds. Don't know why but I hope the others worked for you.

Mandrake sucked!
Red Hat is much better.

I had everything set up on Mandrake, and after a couple of reboots, the system some how forgot to remember what services to startup. The rpm tool was crap. At one stage it didn't even see anything was installed. The computer was bogged down also.

It has a load of packages come with it though.
