I just installed Mandrake 8.2, the first linux distro I've installed since 1998. Everything works great! except for video playback. Regardless of whether it's a stream or a file on my hard drive, I can't see anything but a blue screen when it's playing. If I step through the file (moving the position slider, while the player is paused) I can see each individual frame... just not while it's playing. This happens with each video player I have (Xine, Xmovie, KDE media, etc.) and with every web browser (whether embedded, like Galeon, or by passing the file to a viewer). It seems like a global error but I'm not even sure what causes this, much less how to fix it. Can someone help? I'm pretty computer savvy, but I haven't used linux in years (until recently).

Notables:

Athalon T-bird 1.4Ghz

256MB

Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti/MX440
(Kernel specific drivers installed, didn't make a differenc)

I really appreciate any help you guys could give me!

So you've try both the stock 'nv' driver included with X and the nvidia kernel and GLX packages from www.nvidia.com?

Anything in the nvidia readme that mentions anything about this or similiar problems with video playback?

Have you checked your system log (/var/log/messages) to see if there are any video etc. errors?
