I've heard that DHCP can slow down your eth. connection, is that true? Because my Mandrake is not running very fast on the web, i'm getting slow transfer rates where as my Win9x machine is much faster , and i have tweaked its registry. Is there a tweak for linux? Could it be my nic driver as well, possibly filling my buffers. I have a Netgear Nic and i'm using the NatSemi driver, how does the Tulip driver compare?
My win9x machine gets 1200k d/l my linux gets 300k

I really doubt it's DHCP's fault. It uses a tiny bit of bandwidth every once in awhile to renew it's lease on the IP, but not much at all.

It's not the bandwith , its a stalling issue with it....but what about tweaks?

It’s not the DHCP.

Are you sharing an Internet connection with your 9x box? If so what proxy server are you using?
