You could also try the Programming NHF's (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/programming/index.html). The Bash Scripting NHF is a few pages long and quite good.

the book is pretty good, sent the webbrowsable book, couldn't find the pdf. All emails listed now have it.
