Mandrake 7.2/KDE 2.0 Sound Question

OK, I've got 'Drake 7.2 up and running, KDE 2.0 (with all updates) going. I have sound, but I can't play an audio CD. I know I'm doing something dumb, probably with groups or permissions.

I've checked the pyhsical connections, and they are OK. Another symptom is that the door button on the CD-ROM drive doesn't respond. I can only open the door by hitting the eject button from within XMMS.

Anybody heard of this before?

did you check kmixer to see if cd audio is not muted or turned down?

Yeah, everything looks Kosher. I'm going to try to rip them and save them to the HDD. If that works, than I'll know that it's the CD-ROM and not the sound card.

You might also want to check to see if KDE2 is up-to-date. there is a patch for some kde sound files.
