I have a gateway vivitron21 monitor - ATI Radeon VIVO vid card and RedHat 7.3

Here is the problem. Linux boots fine. Enters the text shell fine, and loads Xwindows system fine.

Once in Xwindows if I <Ctl> <Alt> <F?> to access a shell or another X session, my monitor shuts off and displays the "timing signal frequencey" error (or something like that). The only way to revive the monitor is to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Check your monitor/video card settings in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and ensure the refresh rate etc. are set correctly.

i.e.

HorizSync 30-121
VertRefresh 50-160
ModeLine "1800x1440/70Hz" 250 1800 1896 2088 2392 1440 1441 1444 1490 +HSync +VSync
ModeLine "640x480" 25.175 640 664 760 800 480 491 493 525

Modes "1800x1440/70Hz" "640x480"

Those are for mine of course. Have a look at the specs in your video card and monitor manuals or search the web to find the specs or examples you can use.
