Make Xfonts-misc (fixed) use TrueType ??

I thought I remember reading on a forum search that the xfonts-misc was a sym link to the fixed fonts for XFree86 to use. If this is the case, could I not just point this link to the true type font times new roman ? (Like I have already told Blackbox to do ?)

Any suggestions ?
