The IT professionals of Southern California now have a new Linux resource: Introducing the Linux Professional User Group of Southern California (LPUGSC)!
The purpose of LPUGSC is to build a dedicated forum for IT professionals that are interested in utilizing the benefits of Open Source software solutions, namely the Linux operating system. The activities planned for LPUGSC will help the professional make informed decisions when evaluating new software solutions.
The LPUGSC will feature various speakers from different areas of the Linux community. Currently the following companies have scheduled engagements - IBM, SCO, and The Kompany. Each meeting of LPUGSC will take into account user input and work toward addressing the prevailing problem(s) in the IT industry, seeking to help the professional become well-versed in Open Source solutions. Once the user group is firmly established, there are plans to start Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which will focus on security, planning, deployment, migration strategies, and other critical issues which face IT professionals.
As often as possible, audio/video presentations will be given at the meetings. Workshops will be organized for those who want more "hands on" user experience. Questnet Linux Education will provide Linux based computer systems and training for the workshops at no charge. This will help get a feel of how Linux operates in a network environment.
Finally, LPUGSC's goal is to provide a "clearinghouse" of information for newcomers to Linux in business and enterprises, create a forum to discuss deployment strategies, integration techniques, and provide a channel of communication IT professionals and vendors.
