What do most people do with old comps? i bet that most of you geeks have home networks with some old comps hooked up. what do you guys use them for? one only got 1 old comp which is my router, but i don't know what to do if i had more. Most of them arn't that useful except for HD space and CPUs. does anyone do anything except seti or file sharing? you could give them away, but i'm the type of person that would recieve thos comps.

You could make your own beowolf or mosix cluster, and run seti on that. Not only great on a resume, but extremely geekey.
I use a old 486 laptop with 4mb of ram to ssh into my real machine and use it as a second kbd/console.
At work, I have a P75 with 8mb ram and a 500mb drive acting as a webcam machine - the cameras are the old connectix quick cams, and you can't get drivers for them anymore... but they work fine in Slackware http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif Got 3 more cameras and 4 more machines like that to play with too... gonna set them up in the zoo maybe.
You can give them to the kid down the street, and help him learn. Donate them to a local charity. Sell them in the hardware forum and give the proceeds to charity. Sell them as "antiques" on eBay, and use the proceeds to buy some more ram. Make a fish tank out of them - the original macs are great for this. Strip them apart and sell the cool geeky stuff inside with a keyring - $10 keychains!

For some reason I wanted to get a bunch (I mean like 15+) 486's together and have the biggest LAN party of Doom http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif.
I don't have that many power gaming computers so 486's are cheap and they work. And with those open source Doom's running around, you can have 64 ppl on at once with OpenGL (tho i somehow doubt the 486's could do that).
Just a though.
