Here's the story thus far :

I've got a Win2K box to work from home with. Its got the modem and a NIC in it.

Spare PC is now running RH7.2/Gnome/Natulis (sp?) and its got a NIC.

The Win2K box can dial up to the ISP, and I've selected the "Network Connection Properties" -> "Sharing" tab and have checked the "Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection".

Question is : How do I have to setup the Linux box so that it knows to go to the Win2K box for its IP?

I've checked out some of the HowTos and they seem to be for the Linux box with the modem and the Win boxes are hanging off of it...

Thanks...

I assume you've got a network card in your win2k box and the linux comp is plugged into that through some sort of a LAN (the wiring of which should not matter). In such a case, you'd look at your "Network and Dial-Up Connections" window and bring up your LAN connection. It'll have an IP for your card. What SHOULD work is setting your linux box to look at your win2k box's IP address as it's gateway. If it doesn't, I suggest two asprins, a glass of water, and that you wait for someone else to speak up. >}

Are you sure that the problem is not outside the box? If you connect 2 NICs directly, you need a crossover RJ45 cable rather than standard fare straightthrough RJ45.

Once you have that set up, make sure that either NIC is pingable from the other one. You might also try proxy software for your connection, just so that you can monitor what actually is being passed from NIC to dialup adapter and back, for diagnostic purposes, till you get the system up and running 100%.

Matrixcubed,
It's my settings in RH. I've got the two NICs up and functioning, connected with store bought RJ45s to my 10/100 switch. I just didn't know what kind of settings I needed software-wise. I'm going to start with what Masa suggested.

Thanks... I'll look at it again tonight...

Also,
How would I ping a NIC without setting up the associated software on it?
What kind of proxy software comes with RH?

I'm not sure, but I think Ethereal would help. Maybe I'm wrong. I haven't used it before but I know it monitors network traffic.
You can ping from one computer to the other by knowing the other's IP address (you can find the windows IP easily) and then typing "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the address on your other computer. If you get times (like <10ms, which IS what you should get) then your connection to your windows computer is working properly. If you get error messages, your connection isn't set up properly. Either, yes, you don't have a crossover cable (straight through cables don't work for direct network card connections and you need a special plug on one end, a hub, or a new wire), or one of (or both of) your network cards isn't set up properly.
