i just put linux on machine, 1.2 athlon t-b-ird epox mobo, 256 mb ddr ram
64mb geforce 2 pro , ibm 40 gb harddrive. my problem is that one of the first things i did was installed a couple applets in my panels and one was cpu monitor and i noticed it was going crazy. so i went into applications/monitors/processes monitor and 3 or more programs were taking up 99.99% of my cpu . and i could tell this at times because the system would not respond quickly. one of them is kapm-idled . usually there is just 3 and that is the first one by root user, pid 3. when i go into console mode the only one that takes up cpu resource is this one , like 80% in console mode. I did a search on altavista to find out what it is and i saw a post in german but i could guess what it means.....kapm-idled frisst 70% Prozessorleistung!. lol i think this guy is having the same problem. kapm is a monitor that monitors your computers apm. what apm stands for im not sure, but does anyone have some insight as to what i should do about this.

i just found out some new info . i shouldnt be worried about the kapm-idled because its supposed to say that but its not really 'true'. Several months ago, kapmd was renamed to kapm-idled in an attempt to
> signal users that it was a special process, and that its CPU time wasn't
> "real CPU time." This hasn't silenced the bug reports and confusion.

But there are a 2-3 more processes that are right next to this one that say the same thing.

in console the only one is the kapm-idled. when i am in gnome , sometimes there are 3-7 that say 99% cpu resource used, but i dont seem to notice any slowdown everything seems fine. i think ive just been staring at my appllets to long. another is /etc/X11/X :0 - auth/home/joe/.xauthority -deferglyphs
