I use RH and Q3 works fine, but when I try and and load it up on Mandrake 8.0 I have no luck. It doesn't seem to really give an error before it stops and shoots me back to plain console. Here is what I have done so far.

mkdir /usr/local/games/quake3
mkdir /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3
mkdir /usr/home/USERNAME/.quake

-pak files are in the .../baseq3
-q3config is in ../.quake

I then:

tar -zxvf NVIDIA_kernel.....
tar -zxvf NVIDIA_GLX....

-make install for NV_kernel
-make install for NV_GLX

I then "su" to root. I "vi XF86Config-4"
and

-edit "nv" with "nvidia"
-put a # infront of #Load "dri" and "GLcore"
-:wq to get out

Restart X and I get the nice little Nvidia Screen while loading up.

I then:
-sh linux.......pointrelease and it installs the rest of the files.

-my desk top is already set to 16 bit so I don't have to log in with 16 bit color.

Now in RH all I have to do is type quake3 and hit enter

When I do it in Mandrake it starts and then gets so far and stops: No error, it just stops. Have I missed something being that it is Mandrake? Does anyone know where I might be able to read more on the install specific to Mandrake?? Any help would be greatful

recluse.

Did you ADD "Load glx" into XF86Config? If no, you should.

maybe it's a permissions error somewhere? I would think that installing it on RH or MDK would be the same. Did you try running quake3 as root to see if it worked?

yea did all that...still no luck....would the sound card not working properly effect the initialization by chance?
