xfree86 and debian

i have a trident cyberblade vid card in my compaq notebook.

for XF86 3.3.6 i need XF86_SVGA... how do i get that?

also... would anyone suggest that i upgrade to X4.01?

is Xfree86 4.0.1 stable?

I use it with my ATI xpert 2000. When I first installed Xfree86 4.0.1, I could run X, but had to do some manual editing to get it right. Seems that some people are having problems with it.

for debian, I think the packages are still in development... I never had any luck with them, and basically, I really have no motive to upgrade until they hit the "stable" branch.

how do i make it so that i can start X with any user.. right now only root can start x.
