To look for an ftp client and there was a bunch of them. Does anyone know which ones are good??

Also about security, since I have a cable modem I was looking for a firewall, but there was so many of those I didn't know what to pick. On my windows machine I have zonealarm which is nice is there anything similar like that for linux???
If you need this info Im running mandrake 7.2 with kde2.

THANKS for any help.

lukemftp is a good FTP client.

GUI firewall apps are junk. Just use ipchains (or iptables in 2.4).

I use the command line ftp or wget, but I have heard good things about IglooFTP as a client. Check http://linux.tucows.com

For a firewall, try gShield - it is just a ipchains script, but there is a companion GUI config tool (gshieldconf i think) for it that is pretty good.

Allow me to add a vote for ncftp. Bash-like command line, auto-resuming, etc etc... what more could you want?

Check out Lance Spitzner's excellent article "Amoring Linux" http://www.enteract.com/~lspitz/linux.html
I use his ipchains rules, and I can't brag about how secure I am, I am not always online like you are. I don't get hacked, and I don't KNOW how secure I am. The only info I get is I can pass "Shiels Up" at www.grc.com. (http://www.grc.com.) I also use zonealarm in Win95.

I like ncftp personally.

non-free! non-free software is bad!!

Seriously though, lftp and lukemftp are both very good, free software alternatives to ncftp.

There is nothing wrong with paying good money for good software.

The problem is paying good money for bad software.
