hello all,
I really need help how to install X from scratch. From downloading the binaries from Xfree86, bla-bla bla ....
Now i can see at my screeen very big cursor with half screen X only.
I'm very confused by this. How about the window manager. When i install X from Xfree86, is window manager included ? Which one ?
How to start X after installing...
please help me...

The only window manager that comes with X is twm. You don't want to use that, trust me. (though I did know a guy who used it by choice ...)
Search around the Window Managers/Desktop Environments forum for "default window manager" - that question gets asked at least once every two weeks.
The installation instructions are on www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org) - XFree86's website. To start X from the console, startx is the command.

thanks strike,
now i can see my mouse cursor changed into I, seems like ready to accept typing, but my screen is actually half of screen, bottom side. Then my cursor is very BIG. Anything i type cannot appear in screen. I think it will succeed later.
Am i doing something wrong or lack something ?

hello,
I still confused how to deal with this :
when using xf86config, if a card is basically unsupported, it seems hopeless, for example s3 trio 3d 2x, but when using other distribution, for example redhat, it works properly. When i see the XF86Config file, it doesn't seem to be so differ.
So what is the magic ?
Can anyone help me...
