I'm not even gonna try looking for a Voodoo3.
I've read they're the best (support-wise) but very hard to come by.

So I'm looking at a cheapie nV GF MX200 with  binary drivers  .

Or maybe something cheap from the ATI Radeon family. I dunno what kind of drivers ATI has.

What are your thoughts?
TIA

I don't know much about the new ATIs, but I had a 4mb agp card (rage pro chipset) and that worked perfectly. I now have a GF MX 200 and it also works equally well. It replaced my ATI + Voodoo2 combo.

Nvidia drivers are very good, I've had no problems. here are some links to follow:
http://support.ati.com/faq/linux.html http://dri.sourceforge.net

Personally, I'd recommend the GF. Look for it on ebay.

THX, but ebay 'n' most other e-commerce sites need credit cards and I don't have one.
In fact I think only 3 in 10 Dutch may have one. They're useless in Holland.

I saw a Leadtek MX200 one here (http://www.eynstein.nl/a/755.html) for $69-71 including s&h.

But I'm not in a hurry.
I've survived till now with a 4-year-old generic S3 ViRGE, so I CAN wait another couple of months. :)

Nvidia definitely has the best support right now, in every OS. Last time I looked I think geforce 2 mx's were like $40 on pricewatch.

I've heard some good things about radeons in Linux but I don't have one so I can't say from personal experience.

Voodoo 3 cards are definitely not the best supported, I've heard quite a few problems posted on here and buying one today would be foolish since future support is all dependant on the oss community and if you wanted to use it in another OS or a future release of another OS who knows if it would work and there's no company left to go *****ing to about the drivers.

I wish kyro had Linux drivers, we certainly need some more competition out there.

Thannks, I didn't realize Kyro was a different chipset manufacturer.
I thought just another nVidia card maker.
Now lessee if i can find a URL.... :)
