I'm trying to run my Linux box into a router for my apartment and then run my WinXP box into my Linux box, so both can use the Internet at the same time. During the Mandrake 8.2 install process it setup my networks for me and set my eth0 to 192.168.0.100 (my router is 192.168.0.1) and my eth1 to 192.168.0.1, which is connected through a hub to my WinXP box. My internet connection is dcnp, so I don't have the addresses for a DNS server, it just finds it on it's own for my roommate's computers.
I couldn't connect to any pages not in my cache because when it tried to access 192.168.0.1 for DNS lookup, it looked to eth1 instead of looking to the router. After I changed the IP address of eth1 to 192.168.1.1, I can connect to pages on the linux box because it's looking to the right DNS server now.
My problem is I can no longer connect with my WinXP box, nor can I ping 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.100. I've tried making the WinXP IP 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.0.105, neither worked. I've also put 192.168.1.1 as the gateway on the WinXP machine and I still can't ping anything. The only thing I can think of is that the setup used during install set it so that the internal network must be run from a card with an IP address of 192.168.0.1. Is there anyway to change this if this is the case, and if it's not, any suggestions on what might help the WinXP box connnect?
Thanks
