I have Linksys 5-port workgroup hub and any time I copy, move, access files on Linux from internal win machine, hub show many collisions. If I copy files than it shows red for collisons constantly. Hub is 10Mbps. My internet connection (@home, 10Mbps) is connected to hub, so are 2 NIC's from Linux and one NIC from Win machine. Win machine is connected to internet through NIC #2 on Linux and NIC #1 on Linux is connected to internet.

#1)How do I avoid collisions??? By a new hub, do something differently????

#2) Since all of my NIC's are 10/100Mbps, if I have 100Mbps hub, will my internal network be limited to 10Mbps because that is connection of @home internet, or will my internal network be 100Mpbs regardless of @home 10Mpbs limitation?

You'll have to forgive me but that looked like gibberish at first.

Anyway here's the answers to what I think are your questions:

1) Collisions happen, you can't avoid them. At least, I don't think you can.

2) A 10Mb/s hub will not go faster than 10Mb/s. To go 100Mb/s, you will need to get a 100Mb/s hub and 100Mb/s NIC cards. You can also pay for the more expensive 10/100 auto sensing hubs so you can mix the two. Your internal network traffic will go 100Mb/s but your internet will still be limited by @home. Also, an @home cable will not work on a 100Mb/s only hub if you plug it directly into it.
