always download stuff from your distributions archives. with debian you type apt-get install libqt2.
your distribution has to manage all kinds of conflicts like various incompatible libraries and even what compiler is used can make a difference...
if you have to get something from someone else it's normally not a big deal but it's allways the last thing that you do.

You didn't specify whar version.
2.2.4 is the version used by KDE 2.
If you use KDE or Opera this is the one you need.
