okay here we go....
ok i want to install gtk cause well alot of programs seem to want gtk on your system.. ok... but i have to have this pkg-config thing first before i can install that... ok.. i get the pkg-config downloaded into /home/kenkari/pkg-config and do the ./configure and then make, and then make install.. and thats it... and all went well... under my pkg-config is the glib directory, so i go in there... and do the same thing.. ./configure, make, make install.. not exactly knowing whats going on, but it looks ok.. course i wouldnt know though... but all went well.. and make and make install both do things.. so i think its fine..
ohh and of course i am doing all this as root :)...
ok.. now i'm at /home/kenkari/gtk<blah blah>/ directory... and do the ./configure...
all goes fine until i see this
checking for glib-2.0 >= 2.0.6 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.0.1... Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'glib-2.0' found
configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.0.6 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >=
1.0.1) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
question 1: how do i fix this?
question 2: when i type make install it puts the files from ./ to where they are sapose to go? ie /usr/bin and stuff and so therefore can delete the source directory right?
question 3: what does open source mean?
hehe.. just kidding!!!
any help would be greatly appriciated tnx
uhm... after rereading what i just wrote.. it seems to me that the glib i installed or whatever ya call it.. was glib 1.2.8 and not 2.0 like the error said.. so now i will try to do that (SOB) but any general information on ./configures and make's and makes installs , like.. what exactly does make install do???? would be appriciated..
