Hi all,
I;m trying to setup a small (25 computer network). Its currently running in our office as a *****peer windows network with W9x, NT workstation, 2K pro, and XP. We've added a linux box and I would like it to act as an NT server. So, from what I have gathered, I'm going to attempt to do this incrementally. I thought I'd start off with configuring the linux box to do DHCP. Currently, 3 party sw (WinRoute) is doing that for us. I have a couple of DHCP questions.
I know I will assign the linux box a static IP. We use DirectPC as our ISP. That sw is running on a Win machine (no linux sw available) so I guess that particular win machine will also get static IP, Right? Is there anything else I should know about DHCP? I feel pretty confident about setting up the DHCP files on the linux box...there isn't that much to 'em. We dont have laptops going on and off the network, so a lease time of days, or even weeks will do. I believe the only static IPs are what I mentioned above. Currently, the printer is a share off one of the Win machines.
OK, This is my starting point. Eventually, I'd like to have the linux emulating a NT server, handling browsing, logins, etc. But I cant afford to 'break' the existing working network so I need to be pretty confident in each baby step I take before trying to implement it.
Thanks in advance
Steve
