Kage0000 08-25-2001, 01:14 PM I am running RedHat 7.0 on an older computer of mine (200 mhz, 64 RAM, Generic other stuff). How do I resize the GNOME desktop cause now I can't see the entire window of anything I open. Thanks Red Lotus 08-25-2001, 01:35 PM I assume you want to increase the resolution of your desktop. If your desktop is at a resolution of 800 x 600 or 640 x 800, then you may not be able to see all windows in linux at their full size. A resolution of 1024 x 786 is ideal for seeing windows at a decent size, but a consequence of increasing your resolution is that the size of text and many other entities will decrease, and so if you don't have a good video card (or good eyes :)) then you may want to refrain from choosing this mode and straining your eyes. I don't have a great video card (or great eyes :b) and I wanted to increase my resolution, but I couldn't see anything, and I just got used to seeing everything at a 800 x 600 resolution, and it's fine for me. Log in as root or use the su command to become root. Then type: Xconfigurator At the terminal (remember linux is case-sensitive) and you will be able to adjust your resolution in the screens that follow. Remember to have in handy the name of your video card, the memory of your card and the name and dimensions of your monitor. At the resolution select screen, press tab to go into the 16 bit column (16 bit is ideal) and press the space bar at the resolution you want to have. Try out different resolutions to see which one is right for you. ;) justlinux.com
