KWord, no spell check

I started writing a term paper in Kword, and after I was finshed with the first paragraph, I tried to spell check it, and.. nothing happend. I would click on the little abc w/ the red check mark, and... nothing would happen, then I would go to Extra.. Spelling, and still, nothing would happen

is this a bad version of kword that I have, or do I need something else for spell checking to work?

From what I've heard, KWord 1.0 is alpha quality software, and more or less, unuseable. The next version is supposed to be release within the month.

Using mandrake 8, the spell checker works fine for me. Unless you're using something older it sounds like something might not be working properly.

i'm using slackware 8.0

In order for the spellchecker to work, you will need to download either ispell or aspell.
