I have recently installed debian 2.2r2 on a test box of mine. The install seemed to go smoothly except for 2 things.

1. X will not start because it cant find my mouse. I have tried changing the XF86Config to have the mouse point to /dev/mouse and /dev/gpmdata Neither has worked. So my question is where is my mouse? The mouse is a ligictech 2button ps2 mouse.

2. My 3Com Nic seemed to be recognized but when it tried to do a DHCP it failed. This is the 2nd Nic I put in since the Netgear one i originally had in the box would not be recognized at all by the installer.

So right now I am just working on getting X started before I tackle the NIC thing.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Device file for PS2 mice is /dev/psaux.

Thank you you very much.
That got X started and prompted me for the login and pass. However after I log in I just get the grayish screen with the X cursor. It never seems to load gnome.

Im going to try to tinker with the cf86config somemore but any help would be great.

I have a ATI all in wonder pro
Using the ATI mach 64 xserver

Thanks again

Actually I guess that gray background is X with the twm window manager. I have just never used it before.

So my X is started however I dont want to use the twm window manager, I want to use sawmill. I installed sawmill during the install but it doesnt show up in the gnome control center. And when I add sawmill it just restarts X on me and goes right back into twm.

So is there any other way to tell X to use sawmill instead of twm?

Thanks

You can specify it in your .xsession file. See the Debian manual (Chapter 6) for info.

In your .xsession:
exec sawfish
