BP-6 366/523's....new HD 13.6G....goes thru all the set up motions and after it installs all pkgs. , it just stops.....after a few minutes if you move the mouse , you'll then get the "Post Install config" etc.....box....but it just sits ....what's up Thanks.......for what it's worth I just installed OpenLInux 2.3 just fine...I guess RedHat 6.1 does have some "bugs"

Red Hat 6.1's installer (the GUI one) does indeed have some problems.

i'm just shooting in the dark, but what are your partitions like? i had a similare problem when i tried to squeeze too much into a partition (ie. i made a small root partition so lilo would come under th 1024 cylinder) but i was using the auto installer which tried to install all of rh into the small partition - result - install would crash. hope this helps.

I had the same problem with RedHat 6.1 recently. Did you select, "check for bad blocks during format?" I could not get the installation to complete with this checked on a Seagate 8.4 GIG. However, when I unchecked it, the installation went smoothly.

Once again, Thanks Eccentric, that solved my problem.... http://discussions.linuxplanet.com/smile.gif

Does the mke2fs with bad blocks check actually hang or just take ages (as it would if you mk an 8Gb e2fs)? I'd be tempted to let it do the check and go and have a cup of tea while it does it. I'd also be tempted not to use a whole drive for my root filesystem but that's a matter of personal preference and bitter experience.

The "formatting" part of the installation never ends, when you do "check for bad blocks". However, after about 3 hours (I counted! http://discussions.linuxplanet.com/smile.gif ) if you go back and click the mouse, it will say the format is complete, but it hangs there until infinity.

Last RedHat installer I used was 6.0 and there was no mouse clicking to be done. Sounds like they've revamped it somewhat, and without thinking (again). I'd complain to RedHat if I were you (assuming they don't already know about this).

Redhat 6.1 has a GUI install which is pretty good with the exception of the aformentioned error.
