I must be making progress with Linux if I'm worried about background music.:) I've got two problems with xmms.

The most important one is that xmms does not recognize monophonic sound. Mono mp3s are played at double speed as if as if every other sample came from a second channel as in a stereo recording. Has anyone seen this? I checked back threads on xmms, but I didn't see anything. The problem seems to be exclusive to xmms. Mono recordings sound fine in noatun and in the mp3 viewers in both Nautillus and Konqueror.

My second problem is that I can't make skins appear. I downloaded a couple of skins from winamp. I unzipped them into directories under both, /user/share/xmms/Skins/ and ~/.xmms/Skins, but they don't show up in the preferences. Am I missing something?

xmms is still misbehaving on monophonic mp3 tracks in GNOME, but (as a result of an inadvertent mouse twitch) I started xmms on a monophonic mp3 track in KDE3 and it worked! Mellow sounds, no chipmunks.

A quick return to GNOME proved that the results were consistent. KDE3 -- mono sounds good, GNOME -- chipmunks !

Any gurus care to hazard a guess!
