I think the problem that some Linux distros have is that the boot-sector may not be above the 1024 cylinder mark on your harddisk (it's a physical thing). I also had that on Idunnowhat-distro.
The easiest (and as far as I know the only solution, but I might be wrong) is to place a boot partition or even the whole Linux partition at the beginning of your Hd -> the starting cylinder being < 1024.
I think the setup offers a possibility to enter start and end cylinders manually.

Later versions of many distros do not have that problem. Ask yourself if the savings you get by using an older version of Redhat are worth all the hassle.

The 1024 cylinder problem is a limitation of older BIOSes, and of versions of Lilo prior to 21-3; Redhat 6.2 shipped with Lilo version 21-1, so it will have this limitation. Rh7.1 ships with a newer version, so it should be able to deal with it. Some distros use Grub instead of Lilo, and I don't think Grub ever had the limitation. Assuming you have a newer BIOS, you've probably just got an old version of Lilo.

RedHat 7.1 has the same problem. If you partition with disk druid in RH you will get an error. If you already have the partitions made (with Partition Magic or fdisk) you can mount the partition and get a warning, but ignore the warning and go on with the setup.

Ohh that's what happened. I was wondering why all of a sudden Red Hat changed...ehhe I just cleared off the partition and moved things around
