Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : getting samba to start automatically
I've tried several things to get smbd and nmbd to start automatically when starting linux. I've got SUSe 7.3 and I have edited my rc5.config and rc3.config or whatever they are. I put soft links from smb to S90smb or something like that but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know of another way to do this. By the way, I am running fluxbox.

When you manually try to start Samba, does it work? I.e. when you type smbd, can you verify that Samba is running? Also, this may be a pet peve of mine (it may not bother anyone else), but when you put things like "edited my rc5.config and rc3.config or whatever", and "soft links from smb to S90smb or something" it makes it sound like you really don't care, and haven't read any docs on what you're doing, which makes me less apt to care what you're doing.

Agreed! Precise details of the problem and what you've done to try and resolve it can help us resolve the problems much quicker.
Sorry, I guess I should have been more direct. I haven't had a chance to start up my linux box in a while that's why it has taken me so long to reply. Basically, I put smbd and nmbd in my rc5.config and rc3.config, and I added a soft link called S90smb from smb and it still doesn't work. Like I said it's been a while so I don't really remember how to do a lot of this. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
